Ernest is a friendly ghost once you get to know him, but he doesn’t like a lot of attention. Unable to speak, and with no memory of how he died, he needs the help of teenager Kevin to settle his unfinished business.

Harbour was nominated for both Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his role as Jim Hopper in the sci-fi series Stranger Things. He also starred in Hellboy (2019) and Violent Night.

The official synopsis for We Have a Ghost reads as follows: “After finding a ghost with a murky past haunting their new house, a family becomes internet sensations — and the targets of a shadowy government agency.” Though this may sound like a plot dreamed up by the Netflix algorithm when provided the keywords “David Harbour,” “Beetlejuice” and “Stranger Things,” the movie is actually based on a short story called “Ernest” by Geoff Manaugh. The “Ernest” title in fact refers to the titular ghost, who is named that because of his resemblance to the actor Ernest Borgnine.
